Nickerson State Park is a state-owned, public recreation area of more than 1,900 acres located in Brewster. The park's sandy soil and scrub pines surround many kettle ponds which are dependent on groundwater and precipitation. The largest of these are Cliff Pond (0.7 miles across), Flax Pond, Little Cliff Pond, and Higgins Pond.
Parking is $8 for MA residents and $30 for out-of-staters. The Mashpee Library has passes for MA residents (based on the vehicle's license plate)
You can also bring bikes and park at the Cape Cod Rail Trail parking lot in Brewster on Route 137 (as opposed to the Rail Trail parking near the park entrance which charges for parking). It's a little over an easy 3 miles to the park entrance, but it can get hilly after that depending on where you go in the park.
<AH> GH and I spent a few hours at Cliff Pond Beach - well we spent most of it in the water, which is crystal clear, calm and refreshing. We didn't bring boards, but the pond is ideal for paddle boarding. Cliff Pond is the biggest pond there with lots of beach space spread around the pond. We parked at Cliff Pond Beach and stayed right there, but walking along the shallow shoreline in either direction could get you some solitude. There's another beach and parking lot for Flax Pond which looks just as nice and has bathrooms. Overall, recommend! </AH>
